They say that beauty is skin deep. Instead of bringing home the most adorable pooch or kitten to first catch their eye, soon-to-be pet owners who sign up for Meet Your Match are encouraged to choose based on compatibility. Emily Weiss, Ph. For dogs, the process starts with a minute animal analysis, which pairs the shelter pet with a color that corresponds to the animal’s personality, persistence level and motivation to interact with toys or people.
Once potential adopters fill out a item questionnaire, they’re matched with appropriate pets. For both cats and dogs , the type of breed is less important than you’d think. If someone takes home an animal based on appearance and breed type alone, they could go home with displaced expectations. Of course, the secret is not just to find compatible personalities but to also set up realistic expectations for owners, so that the relationship endures.

Maestro, one of our longest-standing residents, has finally found his forever home! The big, loveable pooch, now named Boss, is settling in with his new family and is getting on very well with his new fur sibling, Bruiser. Maestro had become a firm favourite amongst staff and volunteers at SDCH, so it was a little sad for us to say goodbye, however nothing could beat seeing him head off to a loving home where he belongs.
Arriving at the Home in May, the 3 year old Bull Mastiff cross is available for adoption, yet is having some trouble finding his forever family. Maestro was found lost at a park in Mortdale and while his microchip was able to be scanned for its unique digit number, it was not registered against any details in Australia. Servicing 8 council areas across the city, they have reunited and rehomed animals in the last month alone.
As no time limits are placed on any animal awaiting adoption at Sydney Dogs and Cats Home, Maestro has become a familiar face after being there for almost 4 months. The team have also picked up on a few quirks, which could hint towards the kind of person with whom Maestro would like to go home…or at least his preferred mode of transport. In the meantime, he will continue to be lovingly cared for by staff and volunteers.

Now through the end of the February, adopters who are tired of swiping left on potential love connections can have the PSPCA’s staff match them up with their ideal canine companion. The PSPCA’s adoption team will help match adopters with their most compatible canine partner by encouraging them to stop in at the adoptions desk, take a quick survey and then meet three dogs our staff recommends. For those looking instead for a feline friend, the PSPCA will help mend broken hearts by giving them a second chance at love.
Adopters that choose cats who have been returned to the shelter, or who have been in the shelter for 30 days and longer, will receive 50 percent off adoption fees. Not ready to adopt? The Pennsylvania SPCA is encouraging animal lovers everywhere to send Valentine’s to shelter animals as they search for love. The attack put the year-old boy in the hospital for seven days and required surgery for his jaw and teeth.

Is your hound lonely? A new app could connect them to their new best friend. PatchPets, the brainchild of year-old QUT business student Josh Fritz, is a social media app connecting dogs and their owners to other dogs for park play dates. The app also maps local parks, connects businesses to dog owners, and allows owners to filter dog types to find the best play match for their beloved furry friends. Since launching in May, the app has attracted more than users internationally – far beyond Mr Fritz’s original estimate of about within the first four weeks.
That’s why I created the Kennelwood Pet Resorts Pet Matchmaker program – to help pair dogs and cats that need a good home with an appropriate, loving Pet.
One of the biggest barriers to pet adoption we face today is the lack of response from rescue groups that are overworked, under-resourced, and often struggle to respond to all adoption enquiries. But we understand that when someone falls in love with a pet on PetRescue, and their enquiries go unanswered, it can be very disheartening.
Leveraging our greatest strengths as the digital innovators and disruptors of animal welfare, we have the solution – Matchmakers! So we urgently needed to get rescue pets mobile by bringing all pet search functionality to the mobile website to ensure more rescue pets find their forever home quicker. Thanks to your support, we successfully achieved this by launching the new mobile responsive website, complete with improved pet search functionality, in May Potential pet adopters are now able to create and save their own detailed online adopter profile – sharing essential information about their family, home, existing pets and lifestyle with relevant rescue groups, pounds or shelters when they inquire about a pet.
Not only does this allow faster, more informed decisions to be made about the suitability of the adopter, it also helps eliminate the need for adopters to complete endless adoption forms for every single pet enquiry – something we know turns many people away from rescue and towards other means of obtaining a pet. In the past, when people enquired about a pet on the PetRescue website, the enquiry was sent as an email directly to our rescue members.
While generally reliable, email is not completely robust. Mailboxes can be full and reject new messages. Email systems can be misconfigured.

In retrospect, it was a terrible idea. Once home, however, the arrangement proved less than ideal. The rambunctious pup tore across the living room, repeatedly knocking the toddler off her already unsteady feet.

Every dollar donated to the rescue benefits the animals while making them feel loved and safe during their transition time with us before they go to their furever homes! We have established connections to adoptees and other rescue groups outside of Kern County, allowing us to transfer or place as many as animals per month. Currently over dogs and cats are euthanized every month in one Kern County shelter alone, so there is still much more work to be done.
